Wha'd Up Wednesday
Wednesday sure snuck up on us this week with the Monday holiday so we have nothing prepared.
We have looked ahead to the weather for the BLT 5k Run on Saturday October 24th, 2015 and right now it is stating 50+mm of rain...sounds fun! Not like we haven't run in that weather before only this time it won't be 3 hrs.....
Speaking of I guess we should get some runs in!

Tip Tuesday
Eating small, frequent mini-meals that include a lean
protein, complex carbohydrate, and monounsaturated fat (like almond butter on
whole-wheat toast or guacamole and carrot sticks) helps stabilize your blood
sugar. This will keep your metabolism and digestive tract humming and
will make it easier to resist unhealthy snacks.

Wha'd up?
Twin 2 is currently enjoying her time in Vegas with the hubby....or we think she is...he's not a good traveler at times especially in the heat :(
While Twin 2 is off Twin 1 is enjoying these sites when its not raining. Here is a pic of Long Lake where she takes the dogs most week nights.
She does complain about taking them some days and then she sees this beautiful sight and realizes that not a lot of people get to see it as not everyone knows this place exists. She didn't before she got the pups.
Also there as been some of this going on lately. FROST!
Also since Twin 1 got the couch from Twin 2 Onyx can't lay on the arm like she used to as its smaller so this is how she looks out the window now....doesn't she look comfy?
We also had to throw out her bed yesterday because Twin 1 found mold on it on the past weekend so tonight she is getting a new one!

Tip Tuesday
Play in the street. Skip a dreaded track work out for
a fartlek (Swedish for 'speed play') session. After 10 minutes of easy
jogging, run hard between two telephone poles, then slow down until you pass
three. Then see if you can get to the traffic light before it changes,
followed by a jog to the next mailbox. There are no set rules, so make it
up as you go along.

Wha'd Up?
It's officially Fall.
We know our seasons not by the calendar but by the Starbucks Cups. We will advise when the Christmas season starts.
Twin 1 has been busy at work with the start of the school year. She does not work in education but her work number is the same as Lifetouch Portrait Studios only without the 1-866 and as people are local they assume they don't have to dial the 1-866 in front of the number. So numerous calls throughout the day is telling people to dial 1-866 in front of the number.
Since Twin 1 got the leather couch and Onyx won't get on it unless there is a blanket she has taken a liking to the loveseat. This is how we find her every morning we go downstairs.
So last Thursday evening we went and got our eyebrows done. They always have cookies and coffee for their clients. We each grabbed two ginger cookies on the way out.

Tip Tuesday
Have a daily goal. Scott Jurek, seven-time champion of
the Western Stages 100-mile endurance run, sets goals not just for big races
but also for workouts. "Maybe it is a technique goal, maybe a pace
goal, maybe a goal of running faster at the end," he says.

Wha'd up?
Anything exciting going on with you guys? Not much on the twin front.
Twin 2's couch finally arrived after three months. It's totally not what she thought she ordered but love it nonetheless (the chaise reclines..can it get any more comfy?). Gil especially is enjoying it. He passes out on it often.
And Twin 2's couch went to Twin 1 and their family is enjoying that. Onyx wouldn't sit on it at first without her blanket but now she's warming up to it.
Twin 2 bought a new kitty bed when she got Gil about a month or so back. Monday was the first day she saw either Gil or Lou in it. They usually walk by it and then stop and gets her hopes up then keeps on walking. She was pretty excited when she found Gil sleeping in it Monday afternoon. It must be getting cold and he needed warmth.
Yesterday morning the sky was beautiful. Here's a quick snap from the bus. It was much prettier in person.
And just in case anyone is keeping track of our goals for the year, Twin 2 is finally going to the dentist today.
And that's about it...hopefully next week will be a little more exciting.

When traveling, carry a bag with running gear in your car in
case you want to stop for a workout whenever you come upon a scenic
running spot.

Wha'd Up Peeps?
So we've been getting a few runs in lately. Friday evening around 7:00 p.m. we made plans to run at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday morning. Friday evening around 10:30 p.m. we cancelled those plans and decided to go either later in the day on Saturday or go Sunday morning.
Saturday morning consisted of some relaxing and bit of shopping (clothes returns) for Twin 2 & Sister Wi and walking the dogs for Twin 1. Saturday consisted of all things pumpkin. Twin 2 dropped off a pumpkin cupcake candle, pumpkin scone (courtesy of Sister Wi. Thanks Wi) and a pumpkin spice latte for Twin 1. We know, we know. We said no PSL's until Thanksgiving but how can you resist?
Twin 2 also got her first Runner's magazine in the mail. So while she enjoyed her PSL and scone she read the 40 best things to eat and drink. Note: PSLs and scones were not in the top 40.
Needless to say we did not run on Saturday. We made plans to go at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday morning. Twin 1 arrived at Twin 2's around 6 a.m. Twin 2 was texting her from her bedroom thinking she hadn't left her house yet. Low and behold she was sitting at Twin 2's kitchen table. Surprise!
The run was a good one. Better than expected as we hadn't run in a week. Once it was done it seemed like we didn't even do it.
Twin 1 went on to walk the dogs afterwards and ended up falling off a rock. Ouch.
Groceries and football the rest of the day AND anther PSL. Boot camp was cancelled due to weather.
We have our runs scheduled for the month of September. We have plans to go Monday/Wednesday/Saturday. Means we missed our run on Saturday and went Sunday instead we were wondering if we should go again on Monday so our schedule wouldn't be messed up. We usually don't run on back to back days but decided to go Monday evening as it would be easier.
We had planned to go Monday evening around 8:00 p.m. out at Twin 1's house after she had taken the dogs out after work. We decided at her house because now it is dark at 8:00 p.m. and her street has street lights. Twin 2's does not.
Twin 1's husband ended up taking the dogs out when we got off work which allowed us go running earlier. We decided to go in the trail this time as it seems like it's been forever since we have. One of Erica's co-workers, CC (who ran last year's BLT run with us and is signed up again this year) asked if she could meet us at the trail. Sure. The more the merrier. She had on her couch to 5k app and was doing 1.5 min walk/1.5 min run for a total of 30 min. Her 'turn around' was after 15 minutes which was almost to the 2k mark so we asked if she wanted to turn around or continue on. She said she would continue and we did 5k. The wind was breezy and cold on our way into the trial but nice and refreshing on the way out. You can certainly tell fall is in the air.
Another boot camp is scheduled for tonight. The plan was to go but Twin 2 has been under the weather since Monday night after the run and Twin 1 was going to go with CC but she is attending parent teacher so we'll see.

Tip Tuesday
Black
toenails can be a warning that you're running too many downhills, so keep your
runs confined to flats. The black part will grow out or fall off in a few
months, but if you're in pain, a doctor can relieve the swelling by making a
small hole in the nail plate.

Motivational Monday & Weigh In
“Strength doesn’t come from what you can do. It
comes from overcoming the things you once thought you couldn’t.”
― Rikki Rogers
So we're not doing the greatest...after losing a lb or two after our first week we've gained that back.
Twin 1 - 132.4
Twin 2 - 175.1

Wha'd Up Wednesday
So last Wednesday evening we ventured to Boot Camp at 6 p.m. It was pretty fun. There were between 20 and 30 peeps there, some new faces and some familiar faces from the TTP running group. It lasted 30 min which included warm up and cool down. There was some group circuit exercises, exercises on your own and some partner work. You don't have to worry whether someone else is better than you as there are people there of all ages and sizes and fitness level and you just do what you can do. We plan to be back this evening. They are usually held on Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings. We missed this past Sunday as we were in NH.
As stated we went to NH on the long weekend. We just mainly hung out around home and we also went for a bike ride. Twin 2 has been bugging her husband to packs the bikes in the van and he did this weekend so we had to make sure we actually went for a bike ride or he'd never do it again. We drove around the NH River. We figured it Twin 1 could run around it (back during half marathon training last summer) we could for sure bike around it. Took about 52 minutes.
So as we started running a bit again Twin 2 got an email from Runners World about how to 'Run Less Run Faster'. She was intrigued and always looking for an easy way out so she ordered this book. She read the book and no, it will not be easy. There will be less runs but the runs will be harder. More on the book and their training plan in another post.
Just in case you are wondering we did not weigh ourselves on Sunday. Mom and Dad don't have a scale (or maybe they do but we didn't see one) so instead of weighing ourselves in the middle of the week we'll just wait until next Sunday.
It is PUMPKIN SPICE LATTE season. We haven't had one yet. We're gonna try to hold off until Thanksgiving....one month...
So not much else to report. Twin 2 did make a discovery. She has an iphone and she's not the greatest with technology and if her phone can text she's happy with it. Anyway when she was setting her alarm last Monday to get up early and go for the 5 am run she discovered that she could use a song as her alarm instead of the ones they give you on the phone. Well...what song did she pick? Larger than Life by the Backstreet Boys. That's about the only thing that could get her up.
Notice this alarm is never on repeat |
Take a listen. Try it. When the Boys tell you that you are larger than life I bet it will get you up too. (the music actually starts at :57)

Tip Tuesday
Designate
one day of the week as your long run day. This is your longest run of the
week. Use the long run day to increase your mileage to your desired
distance. Your other two run days of the week will be of shorter distance
than your long run day. For example: run one: 3.5 miles; run two: 3
miles; run three: 5 miles (long run day).

Wha'd up?
HAPPY SEPTEMBER!
We started a new workout plan. These we found on Pinterest. We are rotating days of arms/abs/run and legs/bike. We are resting on Friday's.
Here at the workouts we are doing:
I don't think you can really read them LOL. They are very tiny but you can see the pictures.
Twin 1's neighbor is a seller of It Works Global and she talked her into buying the Greens on the Go and if Twin 1 is trying it then Twin 2 always falls suit and is trying it as well. We started it last week. We bought the berry flavor and its pretty good. We were drinking it mixed with water but Twin 1 just bought some OJ and it tastes good in that as well.
Also this past week Twin 1's MIL gave her some fresh veggies from her garden which are now in the window hoping to ripen and some 50% off Black Forest cake which we polished off Saturday when we were tanning :-)
In case you doubted us we just want to advise that we did actually get up and run for 5:00 a.m.on Monday morning with CS. Twin 2 picked up Twin 1 at 4:50 a.m. and we got to CS's around 4:55 a.m. and was on the road at 5:00 a.m. as planned. We ran 2k out and 2k back as we had to be home in time to get ready for work (Twin 2 had an EDO). It was dark during our run as the sun normally doesn't rise until around 6:30 a.m.. It was still humid for that early in the morning which we didn't think it would be. There is talk about doing it again someday. Twin 2 and CS has plans to meet up downtown before work as they both work downtown.

Tip Tuesday
If you're hydrating with a sports drink, you're getting
carbs and electrolytes, so you don't need to also eat an energy gel.
Ingesting too many carbs can lead to GI distress. If you prefer both, use
one the first hour, the other in the second.

Weigh Day
This morning was weigh day, week 1. Turned out well for both of us. Twin 1 lost 1.2 lbs coming in at 130.8 & Twin 2 lost 2.2 lbs coming in at 173.5. Truth be told, we were slightly worried last night as we got into the chocolate chips...:) but maybe the run we did yesterday morning helped.
Saturday morning at 6:15 a.m. Twin 1 and CS
arrived at Twin 2's for a 5k run. We
wanted to get out early to get it over and done, to beat the heat and Twin 1
had to be home by 7:30 a.m. We left the
house at 6:29 a.m. and was back by 7:12 a.m. It was
a perfect morning for activity. It started off with a
little chill in the air and kinda felt a bit like fall but by runs end the sun was
starting to shine and it was getting hot.
We wish we had of taken a camera because when we were in the trail the
sun was bright red coming up through the trees.
It was magical. We need to invent a little running capris pocket sized camera just for those moments. The rest of the day we tanned. Trying to get the last little bit of warmth and sun soaked up.
Tonight we had planned to attend boot camp at 6:00 p.m. but CS backed out due to family commitments. That made us not want to go (terrible) so for punishment the three of us have a 5:00 a.m. run planned tomorrow morning before work. Keep you posted on the outcome.
