Wha'd up?

As you are aware Twin 1 got rid of her car as it was not worth fixing to get inspected so she made the decision to get rid of it and go down to one vehicle.  They do have a truck and its much bigger than her car but look at this steller back up job!  She is quite proud of herself.

This is at Long Lake where she backed up.  Luckily there were only a few vehicles in the lot.

Apparently, the camera does not capture any of the fall colours.

It is now PB cups making season so we are getting prepared.

Twin 2, your kittys want out.

And we're still meal prepping over here for the week.

Wha'd UP?

We've been keeping up with our running 3 days a week!!!  We've been upping our time every two weeks and now we're up to running 5:30 and walking 1:00.  We've been getting faster due to consistency, colder weather (that one time) and upping the run time.  Hard work pays off.

And CF made us Pumpkin Cookies!!!! YUM!!!! We love her.

Tip Tuesday

From an email received from Jen Comas.  Her blog can be found here: http://jencomas.com/

A few years ago, I was listening to Joy Victoria give a fantastic presentation at The Women's Fitness Summit, and she referenced a quote from Dave Dellanave regarding some advice that he had given her regarding deadlifts:

"Just make it easy."

Something so simply, yet so profound, because how often - especially when it comes to health and fitness - do we completely over complicate things?

We allow ourselves to get tripped up agonizing things such as whether asparagus or broccoli is better. Or should I eat my post-workout meal 10 minutes or 15 minutes after training?

In truth, nutrition and training are simply not that difficult.

If we can manage to drown out the noise for just a few minutes, the equation for success for most people looks like this:

Nutrition:

• Eat only when you're hungry,
• Eat protein with most meals,
• Eat lots of veggies with most meals,
• Eat enough carbohydrate to sustain your unique activity levels,
• Add just enough dietary fat for flavor and satisfaction,
• Drink lots of water,
• Stop eating when you're satisfied; not "full"

Pretty simple.

Fitness:

• Resistance train three times per week,
• Walk a lot (or do other non-exercise movement) daily,
• Keep your sessions short, but intense,
• Challenge yourself, but don't crush yourself

Lifestyle

• Prioritize sleep,
• Create stress management techniques,
• Spend more time in nature,
• Give/receive more hugs

It's actually all this simple.

We don't need to complicate things, or add to our stress levels by overthinking it. Keep it simple, be consistent, and the results will come.

When in doubt, ask yourself the ultimate litmus question:

"How does this make me feel?"

And I don't mean at surface level. I mean, deep down, how is what you're doing really making you feel? Do you feel energized, happy, confident, proud of yourself, and like you're getting the most out of life?

Because aren't those things really the only ones that matter?

Let it be easy, friends.

In strength,

Jen

The Luddington Invitational

This past weekend was our annual family golf tournament.  The Luddington Invitational!  We have been playing every year since 2005 (if we remember correctly).  The winner of the previous year gets to pick the golf course we play at the following year.  Sometimes we travel and spend a weekend away together and sometimes we just take day trips to a course.  Last year Twin 1’s husband won the tourney and he’s a member at Ashburn so we decided to play there.

We booked tee times for 3 pm this past Saturday.  All day leading up to our tee times was kind of overcast and misty at times, not the best weather but not hot.  UNTIL we pulled out of our driveway on the way to the course and the clouds decided to part and all’s we had was blue sky and sun and it got HOT!!  Most of us weren’t dressed for the temps once we got to the course but we struggled through.

There were 7 of us playing so we teed off in a group of 3 and a group of 4.  We decided to get carts as well because it was hot and the course is so hilly.  You are either going up a hill or down a hill.  It didn’t ever feel like you leveled out at all anywhere on the course. It was difficult.

Twin 1’s husband is quite the amateur golfer and has represented Nova Scotia in Nationals a few times.  He always has a handicap when he plays in our tournaments so it gives the rest of us a slight change to win. This year he had to beat us by 18 stroke to win.  It’s getting closer as the first year he had to beat us by 24 strokes.  Either he’s getting worse or we’re getting better LOL.  This year Dad ended up with only 15 strokes behind his score so that made Dad was the winner!  AND Twin 2 gave up the last place trophy (she has only given it up twice in the past 12 years) to Twin 1!  Golfing at Brunello must be helping a little bit anyway.  But both of us still have a lot of work to do if we want to join the Nova Scotia Golf Association and compete in tournaments.

After the tournament, we had the trophy presentations and the green jacket presentation and had some yummy food!

Now we wait for next year.
