WHERE’S ALL MAH SOUL SISTAS

Hey sister, go sister, soul sister, flow sister
Hey sister, go sister, soul sister, go sister

So BFF Flo saw the twins crossing the finish line at the PEI 10k in October and was inspired.  She wanted to run.  Registration for Sole Sisters 5k opened up in early 2014.  It’s a great first 5k run so we said “Hello, hey Flo, you wanna give it a go?”  Giuchie, Giuchie, ya ya dada (Hey hey hey) Giuchie, Giuchie, ya ya here (here).  We signed her up and the evening finally came.

Lots of hydration was needed the day of the run so Twin 2 ordered Flo to drink at least 2 full bottles of water:

She had other hydration ideas of her own.

While helping her look for this wine at the liquor store we got separated.  Then heard a ‘YAY’ *clap, clap*.  She hit the jackpot.

The one and only huge dilemma we had (as what happens before every run) is what do we wear?  The weather was weird on Saturday.  So with a lot of texting, talking, etc that consisted of “What are you wearing?”  “I don’t know what are you wearing?”, Twin 1 decided on tights/long sleeve shirt with Sole Sisters tee over.  Twin 2 and Flo decided on just tights and tee.  It was chilly heading over to the run and while we were waiting for a ½ hour at the start but during km #1 the clouds went away, the wind died down and the sun came out in full force.

We were extremely proud of Flo.  She ran the whole 5k and was struttin’ her stuff on the street.  The only stop exceptions were for the awesome hug stations (one of us may have gotten mauled by a homeless man) and chocolate station.   It was her first race.  There was no way she was missing out on that.   Giuchie, Giuchie, ya ya dada (Hey hey hey) Giuchie, Giuchie, ya ya here (here) Mocha Chocalata ya ya (oh yea).

While we love this run, we have 2 complaints.  1) Runners should be at the front of the run and walkers at the back so there is no tripping/bumping other people; and 2) MORE BATHROOMS!!!!  There are 3200 women running this race.  We require more than 10 (that includes the men’s washroom we overtook as well).

Anyhoo, after receiving our medals and taking some pics we ended up at Wallymart.  So did all our fellow Sole Sisters.  Guess which aisle we all migrated to ….the CHIPS/CHOCOLATE aisle.  I didn’t realize how much we all ‘reward’ ourselves with goodies after we exercise.  Defeats the purpose but we’re all the same.

Registration is open for Sole Sisters 2015 and we are raring to go!

Exploring

This morning at 8:00 a.m. Twin 1, 2, B & Onyx took a 2 hour hike into the Long Lake Provincial Park.  Living in the city as long as we have and Twin 2 has never been there.  Right in our back yard.  It was a beautiful morning this morning (been really nice the last couple of days finally) so we decided to take an adventure.  Here are a few pics of our hike.

And after our hike why not finish it off with some treats from Starbucks while enjoying the sun? Sounds like a good Saturday to us.

BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!

After the last couple of posts talking about staying on schedule life got in the way on Thursday so we weren’t able to do our 6k scheduled run.  You’ve heard the saying “Everything happens for a reason”?  I believe THIS was the reason.  If Twin 2 hadn’t of been home she would have missed this VERY important/exciting delivery.

Limited Edition Island Coconut coffee.  Best. Coffee. Ever.

Have no fear.  We made up the run on Friday evening.

Twin 1 got a gift card from Winners so on Saturday we headed out to do a little shopping.  We each got a pair of running capri tights and Twin 2 got two tanks.  Never in our wildest dreams did we ever think we would be wearing tights but we must say they are the best invention yet for running.  And for those of you who can’t wear short shorts while running due to chub rub (we hope someone else has experienced this and we're not alone), please get yourself a pair of tights.

This morning we were scheduled for another 10k so we got up and at ‘em at 7:30 a.m.  I think spring left and winter returned.  This morning’s temps were +7 with a feel like of +3.  It certainly didn't feel nice first starting off but after running a few km it was a perfect temp.  Luckily we haven’t had to run in the rain yet.  This morning was a little misty and chilly but no actual rain.  I’m sure that time will eventually come.

Today with the colder temps we wore our new tights and we also hit a new PB for a 10k (since we bought our Garmins) so we’ll chalk it up to the new outfits.

Twin 2 has decided that she is meant to be a long distance runner (lets hope for our sake or at least meant to run a 1/2 marathon).  It takes her about 5km to get warmed up, breathing right, mentally stable and to run with no complaints.  This morning at km #9 we were both in the groove, speed picked up and could have continued past 10k.  But we didn't.  We're sticking to the schedule.  No shorter runs, no longer runs.  That time will come when we venture to 11k and beyond.  We'll wait for it.
